Somedays, a good swift wind is all we seek, O Holy One. It would be so nice to have a wind to blow away all of debris of our lives – unfinished projects, difficult conversations, unpaid bills, the unease that settles in when we are confused or bothered by the news. Wind might also blow through old stereotypes we have of people, leaving behind a clean slate and open mind that seeks what binds us together rather than separates us. The wind might also carry away, like so many dead leaves, those regrets and broken promises and relationships that tore down rather than built up. But wind also can bring so much good with it, Almighty God. It can sweeten the air of a brand new day full of possibilities. The wind may bring relief in the midst of heat. Also, the landscape will have shifted after the wind dies down and in that change there is always hope. May we take full advantage of the winds of change to create the more loving world to which you call us as your partners. In your most gracious name, hear our prayer. Amen.
