Midweek Prayer

So many sounds fill our ears every day – some distract us, some bring us to attention, and there are those which just provide us with background noise. In cities, the wailing of sirens largely go ignored because they seem to be everywhere while in small towns and rural communities we immediately wonder which neighbor has been hurt or where is the fire.  And then there are the voices that fill our days – television and radio ads trying to get us to buy something, children playing outside, the laughter overheard in line at the store, and if we’re lucky maybe a beautiful voice or two singing their hearts out.  May we leave a space to hear you each day, Wondrous God.  Not as a booming voice from the clouds but as a quiet whisper – seeking our attention so we might live and love more fully.  Open us to the many ways you are still speaking, Holy One.  Let us listen in your sacred name. Amen.
